The Opening
Four books. Four band members. One series that somehow keeps getting better as it goes. The Stage Dive series by Kylie Scott is the kind of rock star romance that doesn’t rely on the fantasy of the rock star — it relies on the people underneath the fame, and that’s what makes it work.
What Is the Stage Dive Series?
Stage Dive follows the four members of a world-famous rock band across four books, each centered on a different member finding love in the most chaotic circumstances possible. A Vegas wedding with a stranger. A drummer who moves himself into a woman’s apartment and announces they’re dating before asking her. A grumpy lead singer and the only person who has ever refused to put up with him. A bassist with walls so high nobody has ever gotten close enough to see over them.
Each book stands on its own, but reading them in order is absolutely the move. You won’t be completely lost if you jump in somewhere in the middle — but you’ll be missing layers. These characters show up in each other’s stories, relationships build across books, and the payoff of watching the whole Stage Dive family come together over four books is genuinely satisfying in a way that only works if you’ve been there from the start.

David and Ev. A Vegas wedding Ev doesn’t remember, a five-carat ring she didn’t ask for, and a lead singer who bought it because he already knew. The slowest burn of the series in some ways — two people figuring out if what happened in Vegas was actually the beginning of something real. The earring detail that reframes the Martha storyline is one of the best quiet reveals in the whole series.
Play — Book 2 | ⭐ 4.7/5 | Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Mal and Anne. This is the book that made me fall completely in love with this series. Mal moves himself into Anne’s apartment, nicknames her Pumpkin, and proceeds to be the most chaotic, funny, unexpectedly tender presence in four books of chaotic, funny, unexpectedly tender presences. The bed-breaking scene. David showing up to play drums with Mal without a single word being said. The dog named Killer. This book has everything.
Lead — Book 3 | ⭐ 4.6/5 | Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Jimmy and Lena. The grumpiest man in rock music meets the only woman who has ever refused to be charmed or intimidated by him. Lena stealing Jimmy’s shirt to sleep in. Jimmy answering Lena’s sister’s phone and saying everything that needed to be said. The stadium scene. And the moment Jimmy finally admits what his mother told him — that no one would ever love him — and Lena telling him that simply isn’t true. This one gutted me in the best possible way.
Deep — Book 4 | ⭐ 4.1/5 | Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Ben and Lizzy. The most angsty of the four by a significant margin. Lizzy spends a long time chasing someone who keeps pulling away, gets pregnant, and eventually reaches the point where she simply can’t keep doing it. The double pregnancy reveal — Lizzy knowing, Lena not knowing yet, Ben’s date clocking both of them at the same time — is one of the most entertainingly chaotic moments in the whole series. The rift between Ben and Mal is genuinely hard to sit with. And the stadium confession when Lizzy tries to leave is the moment Ben finally stops getting in his own way.
What Makes This Series Work
Mal. He is my all-time favorite character in this entire series and I will stand by that. I would probably find him genuinely exhausting in real life — the randomness, the relentless energy, the complete inability to read a room when he doesn’t feel like reading it. But in this series? He lightens every dark moment, keeps you laughing through the heavy stuff, and underneath all the chaos he is one of the most genuinely caring characters Kylie Scott has ever written. Every book is better because Mal exists in it.
The women. Ev, Anne, Lena, Lizzy — all four are distinct, all four have real backbone, and none of them are simply accessories to their rock star’s story. They push back. They walk away when they need to. They make the heroes work for it.
The friendship between the band members. This is what elevates the series beyond a standard rock star romance. These four men genuinely love each other, and watching that friendship show up across all four books — in the background, in the small moments, in David going to play drums with Jimmy without needing to be asked — is quietly one of the best things about the whole series.
The emotional depth. Every hero in this series carries something real. David’s fear of being too much. Mal’s grief and his mom’s illness. Jimmy’s mother telling him nobody could ever love him. Ben’s inability to believe he’s capable of being what anyone needs. Kylie Scott doesn’t use these as plot devices — she builds entire relationships around them and lets them resolve slowly and specifically rather than in a single grand moment.

Do You Need to Read Them In Order?
You don’t have to. But you should. The connections between books — the way characters from earlier books show up in later ones, the way Ben texting during his date in Lead pays off in Deep, the way Lori’s death in Play ripples into the opening of Lead — all of it rewards reading straight through. Each book works on its own. Together they’re better.

Anyone who loves rock star romance with real emotional weight underneath the chaos. Readers who want heroines who push back and heroes who have to actually work for it. People who appreciate a found family dynamic that builds slowly across four books and pays off completely by the end.
