LD has now read seven Kylie Scott books and has a lot of feelings about every man in them. Here’s the ranking — by what they actually did, not what they said. Full spoilers. No apologies.
MAL - Play (Stage Dive Book 2)
He bought her a condo so she could have the dog she mentioned once as a kid. He named the dog Killer.rnrnMal is absolutely hillarious. Childlike enthusiasm. Completely unfiltered. Says things that make no sense, does things that make perfect sense, and makes every single scene heu2019s in more interesting just by existing in it. And underneath all of that chaos, he is paying attention to absolutely everything.
GARRETT - Famous in a Small Town
He bought almost the whole town. He proposed on stage. She was already pregnant and he didnu2019t know yet.rnrnGarrett Hayes is a rock star who moves to Wildwood, the small town where Ani grew up, and the entire town immediately agrees to call him u201cGarryu201d and protect his identity from the press. Thatu2019s your first clue about who Garrett is: people want to protect him.. or they really like Ani.
DAVID - Lick (Stage Dive Book 1)
avid moved cities without telling her. He walked her home from work every day for weeks. He brought pizza because he could see sheu2019d lost weight.rnrnDavid gets third place because the breakup scene exists and it absolutely has to count against him.
Connor- Text Appeal
The hero in this one pays attention in the same Kylie Scott way u2014 the small details, the town, the grandma who absolutely steals the show. JIMMY - Lead (Stage Dive Book 3)
Jimmy Ferris is the lead singer of Stage Dive, freshly out of rehab, and he has successfully driven away every single person hired to help him stay sober. Enter Lena Morrissey u2014 no-nonsense, broke, and absolutely unwilling to take his shit. This is their story, and itu2019s messy and earned.
BEN - Deep (Stage Dive Book 4)
Ben Nicholson is the quiet one. The private one. The one who keeps his walls so high that even the people closest to him canu2019t see over them. Lizzy Rollins has had a crush on him for years and has spent most of that time being categorized as off-limits. Then Vegas happens, a pregnancy test comes back positive, and suddenly the most emotionally unavailable man in rock music has to figure out how to show up for someone other than himself.
AARON - End of Story
A water leak. A contractor who happens to be her exu2019s best friend. A divorce certificate found inside a wall u2014 dated ten years in the future, in both their names. And absolutely no rational explanation for any of it. End of Story is a small town romance wrapped around a genuinely unsettling mystery, and I listened to it in one sitting. A year later I came back and listened to it again.
PETE - Seemed like a good idea at the time
A second chance romance between a woman and her dadu2019s business partner u2014 fifteen years her senior, someone sheu2019s known since she was a teenager. The premise is complicated before the first page even turns, and the book leans into that complication rather than glossing over it. Your mileage will vary significantly depending on how you feel about age gaps.
NOAH - So my ex-boyfriend is a serial killer
Imagine your ex boyfriend gets convicted of murder, and society, as a whole, collectively decides you were in on it. Not only that, but a good chunk of them think YOU framed your boyfriend and theyu2019re not quiet about those opinions. Thatu2019s Sidneyu2019s life now, years later. She didnu2019t kill anyone, but a strand of her hair on a body and a shared hiking trail were enough for the court of public opinion to convict her right alongside him. This book digs into what that actually does to a person, and somehow still manages to give you a sweet love story in the middle of it.
LUCAS- Because the night
A woman goes to check on an old house, wakes up a 1,500-year-old vampire whou2019s been napping in the basement for seventy years, gets drained on the spot, and turned because he u201cfelt bad.u201d Thatu2019s the whole book in one sentence and somehow itu2019s still not the most chaotic part.

Here's what LD has figured out after seven books: Kylie Scott heroes don't love loudly. The heroes love in the thing you mentioned once that you assumed nobody remembered. They love in showing up when they said they would. They love in the earring they never took off and the dog they named Killer and the town they bought and the apartment they moved into three blocks from your work without telling you.
If a Kylie Scott hero is paying attention to something you said, it's going in the vault. That's the whole type. And it works every time.
