OPENING HOOK
Okay so picture this: a girl who writes filthy Lord of the Rings threesome fanfic in her spare time gets accidentally roomed with the hockey player she’s been silently obsessing over for weeks. That’s the whole premise and this time, I don’t think it needed to be more complicated than that.
THE FULL STORY — SPOILERS INCLUDED
So before Chase and Cammie meet, we get Cammie’s side of things, and from there, it’s a “he doesn’t even know I exist” situation (he literally sat on her once because he didn’t see her). She’s the quiet book nerd doing her thing while pining over Chase across campus and in class, feeling completely invisible to him. Meanwhile she’s got this whole secret life writing deep, spicy, incredibly detailed Aragorn/Legolas/Arwen fanfic, and I do mean detailed. What we don’t realize right away is that Chase has actually been noticing her lately. He keeps catching glimpses of this gorgeous girl around campus and has no idea it’s Cammie, who lives three doors down in his dorm.
This brings us to the dorm fire where everyone gets evacuated, and the university puts the displaced students up in a neighbouring hotel. Because Cammie’s full name is Cameron, the roommate pairing gets mixed up and she ends up being with Chase Lovett instead of another guy. There’s the expected round of awkwardness as Chase breaks the pull-out couch just flumping down on it, but they warm up to each other fast, and by the end of the night they’ve fooled around.
Cammie’s take on the situation is “cool, that was fun.” thinking they’ll part ways and never speak of it again, but Chase very much did not get that same impression. He’s smitten, and he goes to real lengths to track down her number and get her on a date. For Cammie this is a little terrifying; he’s a popular hockey player that everyone wants a piece of, she’s the quiet book nerd, and suddenly people are talking and making assumptions about the two of them together. Chase, to his credit, doesn’t see the problem, because he’s genuinely into her (fanfic included, he loves that about her) and he actually puts in the effort to be sensitive about her concerns while still making it clear he wants her time. They work through it, and from there it’s pretty much balancing their social lives while having all the sex as they fall for each other.
BEST PART OF THIS BOOK
Watching Chase fall for Cammie so thoroughly was easily the best part. He’s not subtle about it and he doesn’t try to be. And getting to spend a little time with the wider Tilton/Toronto Terror cast is always an added bonus too.
WORST PART OF THIS BOOK
Mean girls. Fuck those bitches. I hate women who need to rip someone apart to feel better. What the fuck happened to you to make you that way? Life is hard enough without evil like you being thrown in the mix. Anyway, obviously I hated the mean girls who expose Cammie as the author of her fanfic before she was ready for people to know. I never dealt with bullying as a kid, but I’ve seen how it affects someone deeply long-term. It’s not okay, and it’s easily the worst part (as it’s meant to be portrayed here)
The fanfic scenes were alllllmost the worst (for me) because they’re hilarious, but reading Cammie’s incredibly detailed Aragorn/Legolas/Arwen threesome fic was a trip. It’s hilarious, and it’s clearly doing exactly what it’s supposed to do, but calling her pussy her Precious and having the underwear that states it reaches a level of fandom I’ve never quite understood. That’s a me thing, not a book thing, and I’m aware that fans can be die-hard and rabid about the worlds they love, but I didn’t connect with it so it felt weird, almost in a second-hand embarassment kind of way? I don’t know, maybe let’s not talk about this any more, lol.
THE STEAM RATING BREAKDOWN
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 — this one’s spicy. The romance is fully central to the plot, and it’s on the page and explicit. There’s also a fair amount of threesome content baked into Cammie’s fanfic specifically, so know that going in.
THE ENDING — SATISFIED OR DISAPPOINTED?
Satisfied. They’re perfect for each other, and they end up as exactly the kind of adorable, all-in couple this book was building toward.
WOULD WE REREAD IT?
Already have. The Toronto Terror is one of my comfort series (I go back to the Tilton/Toronto Terror books for laughs, smiles, and characters I already love spending time with) and while this is maybe my least favourite of the eight so far, I wasn’t sad to reread it for a review.
A MOMENT THAT STOOD OUT
The dorm fire mix-up putting Chase Lovett in a room with “Cameron Loveless” instead of the guy everyone expected was such a simple setup but it does so much to get things moving.
WHO IS THIS FOR
Anyone who wants insta-lust, but with real connection and a fair bit of spice, and a great extended cast to fall into. Bonus points if you like a Canadian setting.
